The container that holds the water for the football team is 3/4 full. After pouring out 7 gallons of water, it is 1/2 full. How many gallons can the container hold?

OpenStudy (damonte212):

If you divide the container by 4 you'll get how many gallons are in a quarter of the container. You're going from 3/4 to 2/4 [which is equal to 1/2]. If seven gallons are poured out from 3/4 and you end up with 2/4, multiply 7 by 4 to get the answer. Answer is 👉 28 gallons

OpenStudy (flashp):

28 gallons it can hold

OpenStudy (flashp):

28 gallons because the container was 3/4 full and is now 1/2 full. Get 1/2 to a common denominator of 4 so 3/4-2/4=1/4 1/4 contains 7 gallons. So 7 x 4 is 28
