Why is Lincoln's plan best for the confederates? Please help. We have to right a two page essay on how Lincoln's plan was the best. I tried looking in my book but I didn't get anywhere.
Which plan please specify
Ten Percent Plan
The Ten Percent plan was a way of reconciling the south and north with one another, basically, if "ten percent" of the state in question was willing to come back over to the US, they could do so. The possibility of pro-confederate sympathies would be dealt with by keeping the former confederates out of positions of power, and it also furthered anti-slavery by abolishing it as a condition of rejoining the US.
Does that help?
A little bit, but I'm still sorta confused on how it helped the confederates specifically.
During the American Civil War in December 1863, Abraham Lincoln offered a model for reinstatement of Southern states called the 10 percent Reconstruction plan. It decreed that a state could be reintegrated into the Union when 10% of the 1860 vote count from that state had taken an oath of allegiance to the U.S. and pledged to abide by Emancipation. Voters could then elect delegates to draft revised state constitutions and establish new state governments. All southerners except for high-ranking Confederate army officers and government officials would be granted a full pardon. Lincoln guaranteed southerners that he would protect their private property, though not their slaves. By 1864, Louisiana, Tennessee, and Arkansas had established fully functioning Unionist government
That sounds good.
Ok, so it didn't help confederates?
OR, did it help confederates by letting them keep there job?
It didn't help the confederates, it was much more pro-union.
