Posted on June 12, 2010 Stephenie Meyer by Benji White Stephenie Meyer is the author of the popular vampire novel series Twilight. Stephenie was inspired by a dream she had about the books’ main characters. The dream was very vivid and interesting, so she typed all of the details that she could remember on her computer. The rest of the story developed from there. It wasn't easy for Stephenie to get Twilight, the first book in the series, published. With encouragement from her sister, she submitted letters to several literary agencies. After Stephenie received several rejection letters, Writers House requested to see more of the book. A few weeks after that, Writers House wanted to see the entire book. This was the point at which Meyer grew hopeful that the book would be published. A month later, an agent from Writers House contacted Stephenie and agreed to represent her. Stephenie and her agent worked on improving the book for about two weeks. They changed the title from Forks to Twilight. Next, the agent sent the book out to several publishing companies. After a few weeks, Little, Brown and Company agreed to publish Twilight and offered Meyer a three-book deal. Meyer’s agent negotiated for a better contract and won. Since then, Meyer has written three more books in the Twilight series. Meyer has had a very successful career as a writer so far. Only a few weeks after hitting the shelves in stores, the first book in the Twilight series reached number five on The New York Times best-seller list. New Moon, the second book in the series, stayed at number one on The New York Times best-seller list for 25 weeks. The final book in the series, Breaking Dawn, sold 1.3 million copies within the first day it was released.
