A candle burns down at the rate of 0.5 inches per hour. The original height of the candle was 8 inches. Part A: Write a list of 6 ordered pairs to show the height of the candle in inches (y) as a function of time in hours (x) from the first hour after it started burning. For example, the point (0, 8) would represent a height of 8 inches after 0 hours. Explain how you obtained the ordered pairs. (5 points)
@jackmullen55
(1,8), (1, 7.5), (1, 7), (1, 6.5), (1, 6), (1, 5.5)
is that the answer
The equation would be \[y=-.5x+8\] And @jackmullen55 giving the answer only is against the rules
Well I just wrote down 6 points that applied to y = .5
Sorry. It was only the answer to part A. Don't really know how I would give anything else
Giving the answer is ok, but you have to include an explanation so that they can learn. That is the whole purpose of Openstudy. Giving the answer without an explanation at all will get you a ban if reported to the mods.
Part B: Is this relation a function? Justify your answer using the list of ordered pairs you created in Part A. (2 points)
Actually wait so I was wrong. Because (y) as a function of time in hours (x) from the first hour after it started burning the y would go up one value the x goes down .5 values. (8, 0), (7.5, 1), (7, 2), (6.5, 3), (6, 4), (5.5, 5)
so can u d part B
