Read the following selection from Act III of Romeo and Juliet. What conflict does the line in bold most closely represent? PRINCE Romeo slew him, he slew Mercutio; Who now the price of his dear blood doth owe? MONTAGUE Not Romeo, prince, he was Mercutio's friend; His fault concludes but what the law should end, The life of Tybalt. PRINCE And for that offence Immediately we do exile him hence: I have an interest in your hate's proceeding, My blood for your rude brawls doth lie a-bleeding; But I'll amerce you with so strong a fine
That you shall all repent the loss of mine: I will be deaf to pleading and excuses; Nor tears nor prayers shall purchase out abuses: Therefore use none: **BOLD let Romeo hence in haste, Else, when he's found, that hour is his last. **END BOLD Bear hence this body and attend our will: Mercy but murders, pardoning those that kill. Man vs. Man Man vs. Self Man vs. Nature Man vs. Society
@Kveverly I'm not too sure on this one.
This could be a little difficult. I'm not even 100% on this, I do not recall it to well. I'm certain you can mark off both B and C. Since it is the prince speaking it could be either A or B? @iGreen could be of some help for this.
I was leaning more towards A just because it sounds like he's speaking of Romeo's death and maybe killing him himself? But he's also talking to someone else, so I don't think it could be B just based off the fact it's not just him. but society was also against Romeo at this time, I believe? I'm just certain it's NOT C at this point.
He is speaking with Romeo's father about having Romeo removed from the city permanently, so the Prince is not speaking with himself. Your best shot is to likely go with A or D. If neither of those are correct, I apologize.
Romeo being exiled is Man vs. Society. Two people arguing or disagreeing would be man vs. man
So this would be Man vs. Society then... becuase they're talking about removing him from the city.
Oh, well yes it would :)
Thank you :)
