This passage is from page 80 of Tripping on the Beaten Path by Matilda Herzig. Nestled quietly in the Hill Country of Texas, Reelund is a small town that boasts a rich history. Founded in 1878, Reelund began as an agricultural community that hosted county fairs. To cater to the visitors, many small businesses sprouted, and they still exist today. Maggie's Restaurant on Main Street, which has operated since 1882, has survived two town fires and has been remodeled four times. Across the street, the Reelund Hotel opened in 1890 and has consistently won Texas Hotel Awards. Throughout the history of the town, Reelund farmers have pioneered attention-grabbing ideas. In the 1960s, a local seed-planting technique was featured in Texas Farming Magazine. In addition, for many years, the water wells of Reelund have served as examples for well builders in the Hill Country. As impressive as all that sounds, however, it is perhaps Reelund's picturesque scenery that endears visitors. It isn't uncommon to see Mayor Wyfoot's children playing hopscotch outside the courthouse. A live oak tree provides ample shade for the Wyfoot kids while a police officer keeps a close, safe watch. A block away is Blue Brick Avenue, a street that is made entirely of blue bricks. This carefully maintained parkway joins the eastern and western halves of Reelund. 3.
