Very easy

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

so easy, you'll tell us

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Listen jerk, if your not going to help then go on

OpenStudy (♪chibiterasu):

Well if it's so easy why don't you do it yourself, lol.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

God, why are people on openstudy so stupid

OpenStudy (anonymous):

if your going to help then do it but if your not go on, i don't have time for this

OpenStudy (♪chibiterasu):

Ok, well. "40% of people who have dogs don't have cats." So let's work backwards here. You need to find 40% of a number to 8, and to do that you multiply by 0.4. x * 0.4 = 8 So try to find x by dividing 0.4 on both sides. 0.4x/0.4 = 8/0.4 x = 8/0.4 So what do you get with this?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

20

OpenStudy (♪chibiterasu):

Yes, so 20 people have dogs.

OpenStudy (♪chibiterasu):

OpenStudy (♪chibiterasu):

Now we have two values in one row, so we can find the toal of that row. 20 + 8 = People who don't have cats.

OpenStudy (♪chibiterasu):

Now we know 20 people total were surveyed. We know that 28 don't have cats. So we can subtract this from 40 to find out how many DO have cats. 40 - 28 = ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

12

OpenStudy (♪chibiterasu):

Yep. 12 people don't have cats. Now, 7 people who have cats don't have dogs. Do you know how many people have cats and dogs?

OpenStudy (♪chibiterasu):

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so how will we figure out what the total is for the people who have dogs and cats?

OpenStudy (♪chibiterasu):

Well we know that 12 people total have cats. 7 o those people don't have dogs. we don't know how many have dogs and cats. x + 7 = 12

OpenStudy (anonymous):

x=5?

OpenStudy (♪chibiterasu):

Yep.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

5 12 20 28 Is this right?

OpenStudy (♪chibiterasu):

Yeah.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Your possitive these are right, i just need to pass this

OpenStudy (♪chibiterasu):

Yeahhhh. You can prove it. If you just add the values, it should equal their totals.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok, can you help me with like 4 more pleeease?

OpenStudy (♪chibiterasu):

I have to take a phone call in about 2 minutes, sorry. >_<

OpenStudy (♪chibiterasu):

Good luck with that though. D:

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok, thanks
