@rational

OpenStudy (perl):

Residual = Observed value - Predicted value e = y - ŷ

OpenStudy (perl):

I think you can use the linear regression capability of your calculator

OpenStudy (perl):

When i plug this into my calculator, the regression line is ŷ = 26.2107 -.249632*x

OpenStudy (perl):

now subtract the predicted from the actual y value

OpenStudy (hockeychick23):

Oh ok thanks, so do i plug in 73 for x and do 26.2107-18.223136=7.987564?

OpenStudy (perl):

first find y hat @x =73, so you have to plug in 73 into the formula. then subtract from the observed y value at x = 73, which is 7.9 y - ŷ = 7.9 - [26.2107 -.249632*(73) ]

OpenStudy (hockeychick23):

ohhh ok so i got -.087564

OpenStudy (hockeychick23):

oh what i did was [26.2107 -.249632*(73) ] first which gave me 7.987564 and then subtracted that from 7.9 and i got a negative number

OpenStudy (perl):

Residual = Observed value - Predicted value e = y - ŷ

OpenStudy (hockeychick23):

oh so it should be positive and 7.987564-7.9 instead?

OpenStudy (perl):

nevermind youre right

OpenStudy (perl):

it should be -.0876

OpenStudy (perl):

OpenStudy (hockeychick23):

ok thanks!!

OpenStudy (perl):

theres a mistake in the excel

OpenStudy (perl):

corrected

OpenStudy (hockeychick23):

awesome :) thanks!
