Given ▲JKL~ ▲PQR , what is RP? A. 0.95 B. 2.70 C. 3 D. 20.25

OpenStudy (butterflydreamer):

firstly we know (we are given) that the two triangles are similar. Therefore, this means that their sides MUST be in proportion to each other. So when you look at the two triangles, try to match up their proportional sides :) (i've colour-coordinated them below so you can see it) http://prntscr.com/73b91j So if you look at the two triangles. The red side on the bigger triangle = 3.2 And the red side on the smaller triangle = 1.6 Therefore to find the ratio we would do 3.2 : 1.6 = 3.2/1.6 = ?

OpenStudy (butterflydreamer):

sooo, what does 3.2 divided by 1.6 equal to? :)

OpenStudy (♥ashley♥):

It's 2 right.

OpenStudy (butterflydreamer):

yes it's two. Meaning the lengths of the bigger triangle are ALL double the lengths fo the smaller one :) So since the big triangle has the blue side length = 6 The small triangle will have a blue side length of HALF that of the bigger one. Therefore 6 * 0.5 = ? This is yoru length of RP :)

OpenStudy (butterflydreamer):

*your

OpenStudy (♥ashley♥):

So its C. 3

OpenStudy (♥ashley♥):

Thank you so much for your help!

OpenStudy (butterflydreamer):

you're welcome :D And yes 3 is correct :)))
