I'm going to write a debate about feminism, I need your personal opinions so i can write arguments, please help! do you think that feminism is still needed?

OpenStudy (dominantvampire):

alright, shoot

OpenStudy (dominantvampire):

first of all what do YOU think

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I do believe that feminism is still needed, but i need other perspectives so i can answer them on my arguments, do u know what i mean? :p

OpenStudy (dominantvampire):

mmmm.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Maybe because I'm a girl :p

OpenStudy (dominantvampire):

yeah of course the feminism is needed, *chuckles* well, girls would know better

OpenStudy (leahhhmorgannn):

Well, I believe feminism has to do a bit with the right that women cannot be told what to do by men and cannot be verbally abused by a man. As a person who has been verbally and physically and mentally abused by one man, who thought it was just because he was a man, I just think that it's time people start understanding that women can think for themselves and make intelligent decisions, that we have never needed a man to tell us what to do.

OpenStudy (theyankee):

I think feminism is necessary to an extent. I think we as women still need to be patriotic to our gender and not let our rights slip away, but we also don't need to be obsessive about it or crude. Many feminists end up becoming radicals, and give all feminists (like myself) a bad name. Everything in moderation.

OpenStudy (geneticrockhopper247):

I agree, personally, with @TheYankee. Merely the word feminism these days conjures an image of a radical. I'm a girl who works in the fire service, and I will say that women shouldn't be discounted in that field because there are some women that are amazingly skilled and capable firefighters. So, women shouldn't be denied in male dominated fields solely on the basis that they are women, but they should be able to do the job. So, that little ramble aside, I think that feminism in moderation is necessary and appropriate, but, emphasis on in moderation.

Feminism is defiantly needed and always will be, because feminism is about having equal rights between men and women. Despite what people think its not about women saying that were better than men its saying that we r equal to them. The problem comes with the extremist. These are your bra burners. Extremists are in every group and belief system. Its just about inevitable. These people give feminism a bad rep. Despite those people it has been proven that there is still to this day a lot of sexism in america and all over the world. one of my fav people who is a feminist is laci green shes a youtuber. I put some links below that are videos of feminists that i really like listening to. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UwJRFClybmk https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EJPT_U97lNs

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Also another thing i didnt really mention was that feminism isnt just for girls. There is sexism towards guys its just a little different. it pertains to things like "Stop acting like a girl" "guys cant be raped" etc.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I really hope this helps you out

@leahhhmorgannn "Well, I believe feminism has to do a bit with the right that women cannot be told what to do by men and cannot be verbally abused by a man. As a person who has been verbally and physically and mentally abused by one man, who thought it was just because he was a man" Women can be told what to do by men. It's called a job, and that man could be the boss. As for verbal abuse by a man to a woman, this is wrong. But keep in mind that both scenarios can have switched sexes, with a woman telling a man what to do in a job as she is the boss, and a woman verbally abusing a man. While I do empathize with your abuse, the same can occur with a male being verbally, physically and mentally abused by a woman. Don't declare women being without fault, directly or indirectly. @leahhhmorgannn "I just think that it's time people start understanding that women can think for themselves and make intelligent decisions, that we have never needed a man to tell us what to do. " I think women can think for themselves, and I don't think it's ever been claimed that they can't. But I do believe in some countries, women's opinions aren't as valued, and due to that, they aren't allowed to vote. This can be either due to their religion, or simply their society. But I believe that women can make intelligent decisions, and even science agrees. Men have 6.5x more gray matter in their brain than woman, BUT, woman have 10x more white matter than men, and white matter works faster than the neurons in gray matter as they simply have "more connections", so it's concluded that women can think faster and problem solve better and more efficiently, thus making intelligent decisions. While the brain shows that women can think faster, it doesn't mean that men aren't as intelligent. Men have their own brain advantages as well, but I won't go into them or this will turn into an essay(or has it already?) but anyway, men and women both have their positions in leadership in companies, governments, jobs, etc and in certain situations, both sexes in their respective positions may have to give instruction and/or commands to the same and/or opposite sex. Also, a similar occurrence happens in households when a male, the natural leader for the house has to make decisions that the woman, and children should follow. While this is being disputed, especially by feminism...it is simply noticed that men are natural leaders, and many women have said that they feel safer when they have a male to protect them, and with a protector role, their is often recognition that he is rather a leader. When one protects, he has to command. Should a general command his army to a safe position or just "hey, do what you want" and they go for the city without the general as "that's what they want" and they get ambushed and slaughtered. It's a matter of natural leadership, and how men were born to lead. This is not to say that women don't have a say, as it's often said and I do respect that a relationship should be "50/50", and I have earlier stated that women do well with problem solving and thinking, so it's no dispute that they should be helping when a matter of intelligence or dire consequence arises. Anyway, there is my opinion.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the word feminism has been giving a bad rep. basically it just means that women should get the same rights as men. there is no unbalance in power

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You have to be very careful with the term feminist, make sure you're referring to the actual definition of the term...equality, and make it very clear that you aren't a misandrist
