For this assessment, you will write a short story. In your story, you will pretend that you are traveling in an area and notice different plants, animals, and other species. You can use your imagination and create pretend organisms, or use examples of real organisms. You will use examples that demonstrate each of these types of relationships: predator-prey, commensalism, mutualism, and parasitism. You may not use the same examples given in this lesson. In your story, be sure to compare and contrast the relationships that you observe. Each time you present a new example compare it to a previous example.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

plz answer?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

plzzz hurry!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

can someone please answer!!! i will medal :)

OpenStudy (tkhunny):

How can anyone help you with this? The MOST important thing to do in writing is TO WRITE. Start doing it. Maybe start where you live. Anything there that bothers you? Go somewhere where that bother doesn't exist and see if there is a price to pay - something that bothers you more. Seriously, WRITE! Do NOT worry about spelling or grammar. Do NOT worry about making sense or being consistent. Finished work rarely just pops out of anyone's head. WRITE!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

but can you help me start the story off... plz

OpenStudy (anonymous):

can we do it together?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Why do you need help with it though? I am not trying to be rude, but it pretty much tells you how to do it and the scenario sooo...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

but i need someone to help me at least get started with the first couple sentences.. :) plz

OpenStudy (anonymous):

hmm well sorry I am in the middle of a final exam :P hehe so I don't really have the time to help you. Otherwise, I would though :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok thx for the offer though :) can @tkhunny help me plz :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

helloo... plz someone.. i need to finish this quickly

OpenStudy (tkhunny):

You did not answer my question or follow my counsel. What have you written?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

idk how to start it.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

how do i start it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

plz help and fast @tkhunny

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@JackofallTradez

OpenStudy (tkhunny):

Load up some software. Start typing. ANYTHING. There I was, watching that stupid movie AGAIN... All the chats are dead. Can I possibly venture out into the real world? ANYTHING. Just start. You do not have to know the end from the beginning. Let it twist in your mind.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@JackofallTradez plz help

OpenStudy (jackofalltradez):

I would start it out by thinking of different organisms found in a foreign country, and how their predator-prey relationship works out

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok can you help me with that

OpenStudy (jackofalltradez):

Take Africa for example. How do their organisms survive? And how do they relate to each other?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok but can we do the story together plz?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

how can we start it off

OpenStudy (tkhunny):

WRITE something.

OpenStudy (jackofalltradez):

You can start it off by researching the questions I posed, and then writing about your discoveries

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok but first lets start with an introduction.. like.. i live on a large island called Unicorn Land.... and then we continue

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@JackofallTradez

OpenStudy (jackofalltradez):

Or: I am explorer from (native country), and recently we have gone on an expedition to an unknown island. While visiting this island, I noticed a unique variety of flora and fauna. Some unique characteristics I observed were.... That's an idea for an opening

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok i like that...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so let me write that down

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what native country do u want to do?

OpenStudy (jackofalltradez):

You should do whatever native country you're from. Make it a bit more realistic :P

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what native country are you from?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

lets do the united states :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

please asnwer???? fast

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@Somy

OpenStudy (jackofalltradez):

I'm from the United States

OpenStudy (anonymous):

me too

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so this is what i have so far.....

OpenStudy (jackofalltradez):

Lets see it ^_^

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Im an explorer from the United states and recently we have gone on an expedition to an unknown island. While visiting this island, I noticed a unique variety of flora and fauna. Some unique characteristics I observed were.. thats it

OpenStudy (somy):

Weekend Camping Went to a place near forest take a walk see animals describe

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so lets continue.. what are some unique characteristics that i observed?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@JackofallTradez

OpenStudy (jackofalltradez):

OK, good. Now think of some unique characteristics for your flora and fauna (AKA plants and animals), you could say the thriving plants grew in shady water. You also noticed that there appeared to be an abundance of nutrients in shady water

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so like this... Some unique characteristics i saw were thriving plants that grew in shady water. I also noticed that there appeared to be an abundance of nutrients in that shady water. ??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

good??

OpenStudy (jackofalltradez):

Yes. You could also say based on your observations, that the plants required nutrients to thrive more than sunlight, and possibly had an adaptation

OpenStudy (anonymous):

wait, how would i say that??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

how do we continue???

OpenStudy (anonymous):

this is what i have so far..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I am explorer from the United States and recently we have gone on an expedition to an unknown island. While visiting this island, I noticed a unique variety of plants and animals. Some unique characteristics I observed were thriving plants that grew in shady water. I also noticed that there appeared to be an abundance of nutrients in that shady water.

OpenStudy (jackofalltradez):

And then continue with a new sentence: 'Based on my observations, I concluded that the plants required nutrients to thrive more so than sunlight. Then, you could talk about unique animal characteristics

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay, so know lets put unique animal characteristics into some sentences.. so lets do that :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

and also lets have some examples of real organisms or pretend :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@JackofallTradez

OpenStudy (jackofalltradez):

I would go with made up organisms

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok we can do that :) lets start and i need examples that demonstrate each of these types of relationships: predator-prey, commensalism, mutualism, and parasitism.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@JackofallTradez

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@JackofallTradez

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@JackofallTradez

OpenStudy (anonymous):

??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Lets start with the made up organisms... Lets make up like 2 or 3

OpenStudy (jackofalltradez):

Seeing as how your on an island, I would go with a small furry rodent munching on some of the water plant's seed pods. Which you then observed a drably colored bird snatch up the rodent and fly off into a tree

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok sounds great.. now how can i put that in sentences

OpenStudy (jackofalltradez):

As I was inspecting the water plant, I observed a small furry rodent scamper up to the plant and start to feed on its seedpods. After 15 minutes of feeding, the rodent preceded to scamper off back in the direction it had come from. However, a drably colored bird swooped down and picked up the rodent in its talons and flew off with it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

awesome!! now what comes after that?

OpenStudy (jackofalltradez):

From my observations, I concluded that the bird preyed on the rodent which feeds on the water plant

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OK great.. so was that the made up organisms part of the story?

OpenStudy (jackofalltradez):

Yep

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok so know lets do this part...i need examples that demonstrate each of these types of relationships: predator-prey, commensalism, mutualism, and parasitism.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so lets start with some examples for predator-prey :) @JackofallTradez

OpenStudy (jackofalltradez):

OK One example of the rodent as a prey animal is that it was hunted by a predator bird. The drab bird is a predator because it preyed on the rodent

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok are you done with the predator- prey examples?

OpenStudy (jackofalltradez):

I believe so

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok now lets move on to commensalism examples.. :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@JackofallTradez

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@JackofallTradez

OpenStudy (anonymous):

haha this is still going on? :'D

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yep!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

but we r almost done :) @JackofallTradez

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok so lets move on to commensalism examples :) @JackofallTradez

OpenStudy (anonymous):

helloo?? r u there :)

OpenStudy (jackofalltradez):

When the rodent eats the seedpods, he is also distributing the seeds around the island. The seeds in its feces has nutrition and new growing locations. In this way, the rodent receives nutrition and the plant can spread it's seeds

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok great! now lets do mutualism examples :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):
