Just a suggestion but can we maybe create an OS Lite version? This would help lessen the memory load on laptops and PC's and possibly make my Pooja account work :P

OpenStudy (kidrah69):

It would benifit OpenStudy because they would gain alot more users :)

OpenStudy (kidrah69):

Thanks :3 hero kinda came up with it when he heard about my account :)

OpenStudy (kidrah69):

Eh i am not sure either :/ the cost was my concern but eh what goes wrong in finding out :P maybe Preetha can think about it :3

OpenStudy (camerondoherty):

Ur pooja acct won't work? :c

OpenStudy (kidrah69):

camera ,nope because OS takes up too much memory on a chromebook :P

thomaster (thomaster):

Why a chromebook then? practically useless without internet connection. A windows tablet/small laptop with an ssd is just as quick and has way more functionality.

OpenStudy (kidrah69):

Chromebooks are preferred by many schools (in the U.S) alot of people use them and I dont think they would want to go out and buy a tablet just so that openstudy can work, I know I wouldn't want to do that. My account doesnt even work from my kindle, so buying a diffrent device wont do much...they just need to lessen the memory load

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

@ most people that posted here: I have killed the spam. Please do not add back into it... @thomaster ChromeBooks have one of the highest growth rates for new computers, especially in schools that are getting devices for students to use. Their goal is simple: They do assessments through the internet and all they want is a web tool. No more. No less. As such, the iPad and ChromeBook have both been attractive, but the ChromeBook has a real keyboard and lower price tag. It is also very popular for parents that want to get something to get their kid off the family PC. So, while I agree with many points you have made about the drawbacks to ChromeBooks, the reality is that they are a growth market, especially in educational sectors, and therefore worth supporting. @kidrah69 Getting the memory load down is one of the goals of the present development team. I have discussed some ideas with them, which they agree would help, but it comes down to priorities. Things like removing all mod tools from the basic pages. There is no point to them being there. A new, mod only page with better tools (an idea thomaster and I have both supported many, many times) would be made first, which is the sticking point. Until there is development time to make that, the mod tools stay. On and on, there are simplifications that can be done. Perhaps a light version that does not have the chats would help. Perhaps some of the ideas for the Android version would. In any case, reduced RAM and CPU are both goals of the client changes so that the overall performance can be improved.

Some fo the school related info on ChromeBooks: http://www.classthink.com/2014/07/23/chromebook-buyers-guide-for-schools-2014/ https://www.google.com/chrome/education/devices/index.html https://www.google.com/intl/en_us/chrome/education/webstore/app-packs.html Oh, and in bulk the schools get them for under $200... vs. about $300 per basic laptop. So, but 50 laptops or 75 chromebooks or just 50 chromebooks and have money left over. It is a no brainer for the schools.

OpenStudy (kidrah69):

Wow i never looked that deep into it thanks eric! :D Now i hope Preetha reads this :) and maybe one day OS LITE will be out! :o then pooja will be back in business >:) but yes the facts you suppourt are real facts :3 not made up Schools also use Chromebooks also make carrying books around the halls much better :3 so Preetha please consider this! :) and once again thanks @e.mccormick <3
