Look at some of the things invented in China: paper, gunpowder, compasses, and, of course, ice cream! Much of maths, science and engineering was discovered in Asia as well. Obviously paper and gunpowder are very important, but compasses are possibly the greatest invention. Compasses led way to the Chinese explorers from the 13th century and European explorers from the 15th century.
