Math help please :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@nincompoop

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@BloomLocke367

OpenStudy (bloomlocke367):

okay, so you have \(-pn-6\le3(c-5)\) you want to distribute the 3 to the c and -5

OpenStudy (anonymous):

how do i do that?

OpenStudy (bloomlocke367):

okay, well you have to multiply each of the terms inside the parentheses by 3. so you'd do \(3\times c\) and \(3\times -5\)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

-15

OpenStudy (bloomlocke367):

yes, and you also have 3c

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so 3c and -15

OpenStudy (anonymous):

-np - 6 ≤ 3c -15

OpenStudy (bloomlocke367):

yep, so now you have \(-np-6\le 3c-15\). now you want to add 6 to both sides

OpenStudy (anonymous):

9c and -9?

OpenStudy (bloomlocke367):

no, when you add, you can only add it to like terms... so it's \(-np\le 3c-9\) does that make sense?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so then its d?

OpenStudy (bloomlocke367):

no, it's not d.. close, though.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

B then?

OpenStudy (bloomlocke367):

b*

OpenStudy (anonymous):

wait

OpenStudy (bloomlocke367):

my bad

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it is d?

OpenStudy (bloomlocke367):

I meant to say b

OpenStudy (anonymous):

omg what

OpenStudy (anonymous):

is it d or b i think its d

OpenStudy (bloomlocke367):

you're right that it's B.. do you know why?

OpenStudy (bloomlocke367):

it is NOT D.. I'm so sorry for the confusion

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no. i could swear that its d cuz the sign is the same

OpenStudy (bloomlocke367):

yes, but you have to divide both sides by -1 to get that.. and when you divide by a negative number, the sign flips

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh okay

OpenStudy (bloomlocke367):

yes, do you understand? I'm so sorry that I messed up earlier XD

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thats okay, and yes i understand
