European powers did not acquire territory in Africa or Asia but set up trading stations. European powers controlled most of the world and had rule over them.

There actually were colonies in Africa that belonged to the Europeans, who viewed the Africans with a disdainful eye. Imperialism was also the time of empires and colonies, so I think that pretty much explains things.
