OpenStudy (butterfield1215):

Divide (6m3 – 27m2 + 8m – 20) by (m – 5). What is the remainder?

OpenStudy (freckles):

bottom=0 m-5=0 so bottom is 0 when m=5 since this is a polynomial divided by a linear you just replace the bottom's zero into the top to find the remainder that is you just need to evaluate 6(5)^3-27(5)^2+8(5)-20 this is called using the remainder theorem

OpenStudy (butterfield1215):

Ok thanks you just reminded me how to do this

OpenStudy (freckles):

np

OpenStudy (butterfield1215):

wait do you multiply them or divide

OpenStudy (freckles):

5^3 means do 5 times 5 times 5 5^2 means do 5 times 5 then after you take care of the exponents part you can do just the multiplication part then the addition and subtraction as it occurs from left to right

OpenStudy (butterfield1215):

ok thanks
