OpenStudy (trwatkins1):

What is the interquartile range (IQR) of the data? Table with key of three one means thirty one

OpenStudy (calculusxy):

IQR = upper quartile - lower quartile

OpenStudy (trwatkins1):

what

OpenStudy (calculusxy):

Do you have the data sets with you?

OpenStudy (trwatkins1):

yea

OpenStudy (calculusxy):

Can you give the numbers?

OpenStudy (trwatkins1):

sorry i just started this today and the teacher will only give me videos for help

OpenStudy (calculusxy):

So this is the stem-and-leaf plot, but this shouldn't be too confusing. As you can see, that 4|0 is 40, so 1|0 = 10 , 1|2 = 12 and so on. Arrange the numbers and find the median. Take the median (and that will be your middle number) The numbers that are on the lower part from the median, is the lower quartile. The numbers that are on the upper part from the median, is the upper quartile.

OpenStudy (trwatkins1):

so there is the interquartle

OpenStudy (calculusxy):

The interquartile is just the difference of the upper quartile and the lower quartile.

OpenStudy (trwatkins1):

what if it comes between numbers

OpenStudy (trwatkins1):

@calculusxy what if it comes between numbers

OpenStudy (calculusxy):

What do you mean?

OpenStudy (trwatkins1):

i have 12 num i have put a line half way between 6&7

OpenStudy (trwatkins1):

also half way between 3&4 and 9&10

OpenStudy (calculusxy):

Median is only one number. That is the separation between the lower and upper quartile.

OpenStudy (calculusxy):

For example, we will find the IQR of 2,3,4,5,6 Median of 2,3,4,5,6 is 4 |dw:1431395607572:dw|
