A cyclist rides her bike at a speed of 9 kilometers per hour. What is this speed in kilometers per minute? How many kilometers will the cyclist travel in 5 minutes? Do not round your answers.

@BloomLocke367

OpenStudy (bloomlocke367):

you can set up a proportion

OpenStudy (bloomlocke367):

you know that 60 minutes are in an hour, correct?

OpenStudy (bloomlocke367):

@Cassandra_Lea_96

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes =)

OpenStudy (bloomlocke367):

since that's true, you know that she went 9 km in 60min. so you can write a proportion like this: \(\Huge\frac{9km}{60min}=\frac{x}{1min}\) to find how many per minute

OpenStudy (anonymous):

mmk and then I cross multiply?

OpenStudy (bloomlocke367):

yep

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ok so 9/60x?

OpenStudy (bloomlocke367):

just 9/60 will give you how many kilometers in a minute

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok and then I multiply that answer by 5 to get the second answer right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

0.15(5) = 0.75

OpenStudy (bloomlocke367):

yep! good job!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thank you! =) can you help me check one that I just did?

OpenStudy (bloomlocke367):

sure! just post it in a new question and tag me

OpenStudy (bloomlocke367):

are you my fan, by any chance?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i will and yes =)

OpenStudy (bloomlocke367):

okay :)
