The area of a rectangular piece of land is 240 square meters. If the length of the land was 5 meters less and the width was 3 meters more, the shape of the land would be a square. Part A: Write an equation to find the width (x) of the land. Show the steps of your work. (5 points) Part B: What is the width of the land in meters? Show the steps of your work. Why not draw a picture and map it out?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what do you mean?

OpenStudy (tkhunny):

I mean draw a picture. What else could I mean? The area of a rectangular piece of land is 240 square meters. |dw:1431452716544:dw| Use that drawing to create the Square.

okay so we know we need to get width alone and it needs -5 to be the length and plus 3 to be the width so y-5=x+3?

OpenStudy (tkhunny):

If the length of the land was 5 meters less and the width was 3 meters more, Length - 5 = Width + 3 I'm not sure we ALWAYS need 'x' and 'y'. Okay, how do we find the Length or the Width?

i have no idea
