Which statement is true if the triangular prism and the triangular pyramid have the same base and height? A. The volume of the prism is one-third times the volume of the pyramid. B. The volume of the pyramid is 3 times the volume of the prism. C. The volume of the pyramid is one-third the volume of the prism. D. There is no relationship between the volumes of each shape.

@jigglypuff314

jigglypuff314 (jigglypuff314):

for example a cone is the pyramid version of a cylinder the volume of a cone is 1/3 the volume of a cylinder

OpenStudy (anonymous):

?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

C?

jigglypuff314 (jigglypuff314):

yes :) I believe that is the answer ^_^

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay. can you help with this? A triangular pyramid has the same base and height as a triangular prism. The volume of the prism is 66 cubic inches. What is the volume of the triangular pyramid?

jigglypuff314 (jigglypuff314):

you would use the idea that we just answered with :) the volume of a pyramid is 1/3 the volume of the prism that has the same dimensions

OpenStudy (anonymous):

66 / 3? or 66*0.33

jigglypuff314 (jigglypuff314):

66/3 would get you the more accurate answer but both methods would get you the same answer ^_^

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Here is a different one :0

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What is the lateral surface area of the triangular pyramid? Use the net of the pyramid to find the lateral surface area.

jigglypuff314 (jigglypuff314):

this pyramid seems to be made of 4 of the exact same triangles so all you have to do is find the area of 1 of the triangles the multiply that area by 4 to get the surface area of the entire thing :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

lol how do i find it on that one?

jigglypuff314 (jigglypuff314):

it has a base of 2 and a height of 1.7 the area of a triangle = (1/2)*(base)*(height) http://prntscr.com/74hggq

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so 1*1.7

jigglypuff314 (jigglypuff314):

yes :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

lol 1.7.. so 1.7*?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

1.7*4? 1.7*3?

jigglypuff314 (jigglypuff314):

1.7*4 :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thought so.. so 6.8

jigglypuff314 (jigglypuff314):

there you go! :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What are the dimensions of the rectangular pyramid that is exactly one-third the volume of the rectangular prism? A rectangular prism with 2 unit by 4 unit base, height 5 units, rectangular pyramid with same base and height, but not labeled. A = units B = units C = units

jigglypuff314 (jigglypuff314):

*sings* same ideaaaaaa as beforeeee :3 volume of pyramid is 1/3 the volume of the prism when they have the same dimensions *cough* when they have the same dimensions

OpenStudy (anonymous):

lol ok

OpenStudy (anonymous):

still lost :0 on this one

jigglypuff314 (jigglypuff314):

http://prntscr.com/74hl2x

OpenStudy (anonymous):

A 5 B 4 C 2? or do i 1/3 it all

jigglypuff314 (jigglypuff314):

it's right ^_^

OpenStudy (anonymous):

:D

OpenStudy (anonymous):

last one.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What is the surface area of the rectangular pyramid? Use the net of the pyramid to find the surface area. A. 29.2 yd2 B. 35.96 yd2 C. 19.82 yd2 D. 23.96 yd2

jigglypuff314 (jigglypuff314):

this one is a little more complicated, but all you have to do is take it step by step :) first, what is the area of a triangle with a base of 6 and a height of 2.69 ? http://prntscr.com/74ho2m

OpenStudy (anonymous):

8.07

jigglypuff314 (jigglypuff314):

good! :) then what is the area of a triangle with a base of 2 and a height of 3.91 ? http://prntscr.com/74hokq

OpenStudy (anonymous):

7,82

OpenStudy (anonymous):

7.82

jigglypuff314 (jigglypuff314):

try again? area of triangle = (1/2)*(base)*(height)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

3.91

jigglypuff314 (jigglypuff314):

good good good! :) then the area of the rectangle :P I'm sure you can figure that one out by yourself ;)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

TWONY ONE jk sorry i had to

jigglypuff314 (jigglypuff314):

:P then add the (Area of the Rectangle) + 2*(Area of the first Triangle) + 2*(Area of the Second Triangle) = answer

OpenStudy (anonymous):

31.5537

jigglypuff314 (jigglypuff314):

hmm try again? :) 12+(2*8.07)+(2*3.91)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

35.96

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thanks! i passed and only missed number 3
