Two history questions, please help. 1. What happened after World War II that changed the economic and political makeup of the Middle East? The USSR invaded the region and installed communist governments in most nations. The discovery of oil made some Middle Eastern nations wealthy. Many Middle Eastern governments were stabilized through their alignment with the West. Middle Eastern nations united politically and were strengthened by cooperation.
2. What was the outcome of the Iranian revolution in 1978? Democracy was reinstated and Iranian citizens gained a voice in the government. A moderate government that encouraged religious toleration arose. An Islamic ruler established repressive rule and denounced Western values. The shah was reinstated and his government clamped down on dissenters.
Second question: Iran is not a democracy today, not is it moderate. The Shah died in 1979. He left Iran in January of that year and bounced around a few countries. When he came to the US for cancer treatments, the Islamic government of Iran took hostages at the American Embassy in Tehran.
The answer to number one would be b. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_the_Middle_East
