Given right triangle ABC To the nearest degree, find the measure of angle B.

Using the formulas to find the angle of a triangle with 2 sides known. (SOH CAH TOA) At angle B you are given the side opposite to the angle and the hypotenuse. So the trignometric function that you have to use is going to be with the "OH" and that falls with SOH aka: \[Sine = \frac{ opposite }{ hypotenuse}\]

Actually, my bad, this is different, same picture threw me off. :)

I got that one thanks! can you guys help me with this one instead? A home has 3 stairs leading to its front door with each stair having a vertical height of 10 inches and a horizontal tread length of 18 inches. When a new refrigerator is delivered to the home, the delivery people lay down a wooden plank over the stairs so that they can roll the refrigerator up the plank I got 61 but i'm not sure if its correct @Johnbc @jtvatsim

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So if you are looking for the angle B. You now know that: \[Sine B = \frac{ Opposite }{ Hypotenuse }\] and if you are looking to isolate B by itself you will have to apply algebra and take the inverse sine of both sides to finally arrive at: \[B = \sin^{-1} (\frac{ Opposite }{ Hypotenuse })\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Im not sure what the question is?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

sorry! I forgot to add the bottom of it but it's "What angle, to the nearest degree, does the wooden plank form with the ground?" @Johnbc

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I apologize the problem can be solved using just one of the triangles that is closest to the ground |dw:1431490374286:dw|

OpenStudy (anonymous):

To solve for the angle you can see that you have the opposite side and the adjacent side so you will be using "OA" which is TOA or: \[Tan A = \frac{ Opposite }{ Adjacent }\] And solving for A:\[A = \tan^{-1} (\frac{ Opposite }{ Adjacent })\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

To visualize that: |dw:1431490550537:dw|

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Hope that helps!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah it really did, I got 29.05 @Johnbc

OpenStudy (anonymous):

That is correct! Great Job
