Celia is staring at the clock waiting for school to end so that she can go to track practice. She notices that the 4-inch-long minute hand is rotating around the clock and marking off time like degrees on a unit circle. Part 2: How far does the tip of the minute hand travel during that time?

OpenStudy (butterfield1215):

how many minutes are in a hour

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Well, this is what I got for my answer. (2pi x 4inches)(5pi/6)/(2pi) = 10pi/3

OpenStudy (butterfield1215):

one sec i will check

OpenStudy (butterfield1215):

the one thing is if it goes 4 inches a minute why not multiply it bye 60 so my first answer was wrong

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the first answer is finding the number of degrees per minute the hand moves

OpenStudy (butterfield1215):

yeah thats why i got 6 degrees

OpenStudy (butterfield1215):

if you know how many minutes there are in one full rotation which is one hour and 360 degrees then all you need to do is divde 60 by 360
