People with alcoholism depend on alcohol so much that they lose control when they don't have any available to them. These people are always craving alcohol and have spontaneous impulses to drink. Children whose parent(s) are alcoholic have a higher chance of developing an addiction to alcohol. [Not sure if this answers your question, I literally just joined OpenStudy.]
