Well, ordering around and threatening someone certainly isn't polite, and unless it's your job to do so (such as if you were a commander giving out orders to those in ranks below you), or unless the person is being too stubborn for their own good (particularly if this is between, say, an older sibling and a younger sibling), they certainly aren't effective forms of communication due to how it can upset the party that is being ordered/threatened.
