Could someone pls help mefi gure this out? Calculate the area of triangle WXY with altitude YZ, given W(2, −1), X(6, 3), Y(7, 0), and Z(5, 2).

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

I suggest you graph it first.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Alright

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay, I graphed it. What's next? :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

???

OpenStudy (anonymous):

...bruh you there?

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

Sorry, my connection is messed up, and I can;t post. Here's what you do next. Now look at your graph, and see which side is the base. The problem tells you YZ is the altitude. The base is the side of the triangle that is perpendicular to YZ.

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

Ok, it finally went through.

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

Area of triangle: \(A = \dfrac{bh}{2}\)

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

Can you tell from your graph which side is the base?

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

Did you get a graph like this? |dw:1431553924756:dw|
