Which of the following statements is true? A.Most of the heat energy lost during an energy transfer is absorbed by decomposers. B.About 90 percent of the energy in plant is transferred to a primary consumer. C.In order for an ecosystem to be balanced, the number of consumers must be greater than the number of producers. D.In a balanced ecosystem, the number of secondary consumers must be fewer than the number of primary consumers.

I believe it is D, but it is more complicated than that. It would depend on body masses as well, but overall the amount of living material must be less at each new level as you move along the food chain.

This is due at least in part to the fact that energy is lost in every transfer in the food chain/web.
