The playwright wanted to include the mother figure ________in her play, so she added a wise grandmother to the script. A.friend B. Plot C. Foil D. Archetype

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Hints: Choice A does not make sense. The plot is the entire point of the story. (Technically, if the story was summarized, the summary would be a short description of the plot.) A foil is a character who serves to reveal the personality of another character. (An example being how Hermione Granger is a foil to Ron Weasley; Hermione shows that Ron is *initially* struggling in Hogwarts, and Ron in turn shows that Hermione is a very bright student.) An archetype is sort of like a stereotype, except that an archetype is more of everyone's universally-shared image of said character. (An example of an archetype: for instance, the detective archetype. When people hear "detective", they may think of Sherlock Holmes. He certainly can serve as a detective archetype.) I hope that helps! (^_^)

I heartily agree with your statement. Sadly, while this website is meant for studying and helping out others with questions, it will still attract people who will goof off. Nothing is perfect, but one must make the best of what they are given. Tread carefully around this site and stay away from that of which is nonsensical. Once more, you are welcome, and feel free to let me know if you have any more questions! I'll do my best to help you out here if you would like me to. (^_^)
