x-3 ---- 2x -1 find the excluded value

OpenStudy (astrophysics):

We look at the denominator and set it equal to 0, that will give us the excluded values :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

idk how to

OpenStudy (astrophysics):

What is the denominator in this question?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

2x-1

OpenStudy (astrophysics):

Good, now set that = 0

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so its 3

OpenStudy (astrophysics):

\[2x-1=0 \]solve for x

OpenStudy (astrophysics):

No, it's not 3.

OpenStudy (astrophysics):

Do you know how to solve for x there, if not it's ok just try your best and we can go over it :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no I don't this confuses me

OpenStudy (astrophysics):

It's ok so we have 2x-1 = 0, and we need to get x on its own. So what we want to try to do is move everything away from the x to the right side.

OpenStudy (astrophysics):

|dw:1431568441168:dw| notice I moved the 1 first, we will deal with the 2x afterwards, what you do to one side you must always do it to the other as well.
