How did the Missouri Compromise deal with the issue of slavery?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@hunter1374 The Missouri Compromise was a federal statute in the United States that regulated slavery in the country's western territories. It was devised by Henry Clay and was agreed to by the pro and anti-slavery factions in the United States Congress and passed as a law in 1820. It prohibited slavery in the former Louisiana Territory north of the parallel 36°30′ north, except within the boundaries of the proposed state of Missouri. Hence, the Missouri Compromise.
