OpenStudy (gajanann):

Hello, I'm looking for a formula to calculate the Light Cone. My light source is confined in a Box with a small rectangular aperture. Any Advice? thanks, Gaj

OpenStudy (anonymous):

From the aperture, assume that the light is leaving from a point source. It spreads out into a cone as the light travels. Measure the distance from the aperture to the end of the path, and the with of the base of this cone where it ends. Use the formula to calculate the volume of the cone, if that is what you are after. From the way you stated the question, this wasn't clear. You are asking for the formula to calculate the Light Cone. I am assuming this is what you intended.

I meant width of the base ...

Thanks :). I ended up doing something similar. I am working with CATIA. Worked in 3D. I wanted to see a graphical representation somewhere to ensure that I was doing it right. The intent was to position the light source (lamp) to get the maximum illumination in a closure. Thanks, your answer is as good as a graphical representation. BR, Gaj
