Why was Lincoln's 10 percent plan good for the nation?

Lincoln's Ten Percent Plan stipulated that in order for the southern states to be readmitted to the Union, at least 10% of the voting population had to take an oath of allegiance to the US and say that they would abide by the emancipation of slaves. This of course was good for African Americans, many of whom had been enslaved in the South.
