It gives a medal. I'm not sure about smartcents. Back in the days when I invited a user I didn't care to check.
Medals=SmartCents
So maybe it would give a smartcent. I think it could be used as "borrowing" the smartcents to get a title greater than 500. I have no other idea. Maybe they should give an owlbuck every time you invite a user. That would be a great way to motivate users to bring in more people.
