OpenStudy (pinkroses15):

How did the conflict in Israel and Palestine emerge from competing national movements?

OpenStudy (paki):

"There is no "Israel AND Palestine." That which WAS Palestine is now Israel since 1948. At that time, the surrounding Arab countries desperate to push the Jews in to the Mediterranean Sea, invented the term Palestinian. The people they called Palestinians were the gypsies they kicked out of their countries and left to roam the deserts. Those who went to Israel were welcomed as citizens. Those who remained on the outskirts were used as pawns by terrorist organizations (e.g., PLO) to terrorize Israelis. Unfortunate for the terrorists, they did not understand the resolve of the Israelis. They aren't going to be pushed in to the sea." @pinkroses15 welcome to open study....

OpenStudy (anonymous):

There has never been a country called 'Palestine", 'Palestine' is just a nickname the Romans coined after they conquered Israel and wanted the area to lose its 'Jewish association'. Before it was given to the Jews, it was British territory, and before then it was part of the Ottoman empire.
