Both cases helped build our current idea that Indian Nations are sovereign. States cannot deal with Indian Nations or regulate them. Only the National government can do that.
Andrew Jackson ignored the rulings, which also declared his Indian Removal Act as unconstitutional. He forced the Cherokee and other tribes to move to Oklahoma.
The Indian sovereignty idea is the basis for Indian Casinos today.
