Six apples and 12 oranges cost $18. If x represents the cost of one apple and y represents the cost of one orange, then the variables can be related using the equation 6x + 12y = 18. Which variable is the independent variable?

C. There is no relationship between the variables.

traditionally x is used as an independent variable and y as a dependent one, so maybe you are supposed to say "x" but that is not really correct
nothing in this case makes x any more or less speical than y
