@jvatsim Two lines, E and F, are represented by the equations given below. Line E: 5x + 5y = 40 Line F: x + y = 8 Which statement is true about the solution to the set of equations? A. It is (40, 8). B. It is (8, 40). C. There is no solution. D. There are infinitely many solutions.

OpenStudy (jtvatsim):

Here's a hint: Notice that Line E is exactly the same as Line F. In fact, 5x + 5y = 40, but dividing both sides by 5 gives, x + y = 8. The lines are the same. What does that mean for the solutions?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so is it A.?

OpenStudy (jtvatsim):

Sorry, just saw this... Not quite. Here's the reason. Solutions refer to all the points where the lines intersect.

OpenStudy (jtvatsim):

The crazy thing here is that the lines are the same and so intersect everywhere! There isn't one, two, three, or even four solutions... there are infinitely many solutions!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ohh thank you now i see!

OpenStudy (jtvatsim):

Great! Good luck!
