Help with Classifying a Conic from its Standard Equation

OpenStudy (darkbluechocobo):

Identify the value for C in the following equation that would make the conic section a hyperbola: 2x2 + Cy2 + 3x + 5y + 1 = 0 C = 2 C 3/5 C = 5 C = 1 C = -1

OpenStudy (darkbluechocobo):

So to find this i believe that AC<0

OpenStudy (darkbluechocobo):

so that means that it would have to be -1 ?

OpenStudy (darkbluechocobo):

because 2*-1<0?

Nnesha (nnesha):

hint:IMPORTANT hyperbola equation should have negative sign

Nnesha (nnesha):

you are right!! :-)

Nnesha (nnesha):

hmm but wait

OpenStudy (darkbluechocobo):

These seem simple x: is this bad

Nnesha (nnesha):

standard form equation should be equal to =1 if we subtract we would get =-1

OpenStudy (darkbluechocobo):

Can confirm I got a 100 on that assessment :p those were simple

Nnesha (nnesha):

great :D

OpenStudy (darkbluechocobo):

Lel next section is about putting the equation into vertex form x:

Nnesha (nnesha):

that would be easy :D heheeh
