OpenStudy (vera_ewing):

Which of the following statements regarding a catalyst is false? A. Substrates help enzymes catalyze reactions. B. A catalyst does not affect E for the reaction. C. A catalyst increases the rate of a reaction without being consumed in the reaction. D. A catalyst provides a different mechanism for the reaction with a lower activation energy.

OpenStudy (vera_ewing):

There is a little triangle to the left of the "E" in choice B.

OpenStudy (sweetburger):

ahh so Delta E

OpenStudy (sweetburger):

change in Energy of the reaction im assuming not really sure

OpenStudy (vera_ewing):

Which is the answer?

OpenStudy (sweetburger):

Well its definitely not C. or D.. If answer B. said that the Ea was not changed then it would be false. But if truly says Delta E than no Delta E would not be changed by a catalyst in a reaction. So I'm going to have to say A. Im going to check what a substrate does quickly because i dont remember.

OpenStudy (vera_ewing):

Okay, I'll wait until you're done before I choose an answer.

OpenStudy (vera_ewing):

@aaronq It's A right?

OpenStudy (sweetburger):

Hmm I'm really not sure about this question as apparently enzymes link with substrates to lower Ea and increase reaction rate.

OpenStudy (aaronq):

yeah

OpenStudy (vera_ewing):

Okay, thank you :)
