find segment length DE

|dw:1431814326196:dw|

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I got DG/EF = 1.25/5 I got CD /CE = 3.25/x but don't know where to go from here

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

Since the triangles are similar, you can form this proportion DG/EF = CD/CE 1.25/5 = 3.25/x then you can use CE and CD to find DE

OpenStudy (anonymous):

That's what I was thinking set up the ratios and cross multiply

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

what do you get when you solve for x?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

13

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thinking x represents DE?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

opps mean CE

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

yeah CE

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So then to find DE, x -3.25 or 13-3.25 = 9.75 so that is DE segment only

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Think I got it now. Thank you very much!

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

correct, yw
