Find the volume of the solid.

thinking l x w x h

larger box = 4 * 3 * 4 = 48

All you want to do is find the volume of the BIG rectangular prism, and then find the volume of the smaller rectangular prism that was taken out :). Once you've worked out the two volumes, Subtract the smaller one FROM the bigger one. Basically Volume of Larger shape - Volume of Smaller shape. Note: To find the volume, you would multiply the length, width and height :) Therefore volume of bigger shape : Volume = 4 * 3 * 4 = ? Volume of smaller shape: Volume = 2 * 3 * 2 = ?

and then smaller one get and subtract from bigger one? smaller one = 2 * 2 * 2 = 8

I got it - thanks that is what I was thinking, but I think the smaller one all sides are 2?

OpenStudy (butterflydreamer):

oh you are super close :) Noooo problem :) hmm if you look at your picture, the smaller shape has a height of 2, length of 2 but the width would be 3 like in your bigger shape because it goes through your ENTIRE bigger shape... Therefore volume of smaller shape = 2 * 2 * 3 = ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh, I see it - that was a trick - lol - thanks!!

you're welcome ^_^
