Well, let's put it this way!  Heat, essentially on this earth is associated with Light energy. However, the Earth's Gravity is not enough to Contain the heat within itz Atmosphere. 
thus, Certain GASES like CO2, Methane (CH4) , etc  have capability of Trapping Heat. Thus, They are the Main reason for such a pleasant Temperature on out PLANET. However; Due to excess CO2 emission, The amount of Heat trapped is increasing at an alarming rate. That would mean the Earth is experiencing a Temp rise as I write this. This EFFECT is called Global Warming. Due to excess Temperature, the Glaciers are beginning to melt, and believe me there is a heck load of water in them. That would mean, Increase in Sea level, and subsequent, Drowning of Land Masses. ( another Atlantis-like situation) . This is the Environmental Impact of Global Warming. It is Quite Dangerous!!!!
