\[(2x^2-4x-1) - (x^2-12x+9)\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Just need you to check my answer. Would it be 2+8x-10?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Is there a typo in the first term of your answer?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Nope.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Then the first term is incorrect. The other two terms are correct.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

2x^2?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You have (2x^2 ........) - (x^2..........). How many x^2's are there when you combine?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

None.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

If you have 2 of something (x^2's in this case) and you subtract 1 of those somethings, how many of them do you have left?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I thought the x^2 crosses out and the 2 is remaining.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No. That would be the case if you are dividing, but you are subtracting in this question. If you have 2 apples and you subtract 1 apple, how many apples do you have left? In this question, you are dealing with x^2s rather than apples.
