Bryce is testing whether school is more enjoyable when students are making high grades. He asked 100 students if they enjoyed school and whether their GPA was above or below 3.0. He found that 33 of the 40 students with a GPA above 3.0 reported that they enjoyed school, and 5 of the 60 students with a GPA below 3.0 reported that they enjoyed school. What is the probability that a student with a GPA below 3.0 does not enjoy school? 85% 92% 65% 75%
i know the answer is 92% but i don't get it.
@rational
@campbell_st
can you make a table for it?
how many kids have a gpa below 3.0?
if we place all the kids in a room that have a GPA less than 3.0 how many of them dont like school if 5 of them like it?
@amistre64 are you still there?
you said how many of them don't like it if 5 of them like it.. but what is the total like 5 out of 60 or 100?
it says: 5 of the 60 students with a GPA below 3.0 reported that they enjoyed school. so we have put all 60 kids in a room, this is our total event space. how many dont like school? this is our desired event space.
our question is: What is the probability that a student with a GPA below 3.0 does not enjoy school? so given a student in our total event space of GPA under 3.0 ... what is the proportion of them that do not like school
the rest of the 60 maybe
i don't know what equation to plug in
you are filling in a basic probability desired event ----------- total event this basic definition of a probability hasnt changed for centuries.
and yes, the rest of the 60, 5 + the rest = 60, how many are 'the rest'
55
then 55 out of 60 hate the schools cafeteria food, or whatever it is we are looking for :) 55/60 is what?
91.66666667 = 92%
i got it now .. thank you so much.
youre welcome
