Does someone know how to find the Average rate of Change?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What is an approximate average rate of change of the graph from x = 3 to x = 5, and what does this rate represent?

OpenStudy (misty1212):

HI!!

OpenStudy (misty1212):

same as the slope of the line between \((3,f(3))\) and \((5,f(5))\)

OpenStudy (misty1212):

i.e. \[\frac{f(5)-f(3)}{5-3}\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Hi Misty! so it'd be f(5)-f(3) over 2?

OpenStudy (misty1212):

\[f(3)\] looks like \(120\) \[f(5)\] is harder for me to read maybe \(60\)?

OpenStudy (misty1212):

yeah over two

OpenStudy (anonymous):

is it -30? @misty1212

OpenStudy (misty1212):

yeah that is what i got

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thanks so much for helping! :DD I absolutely love it when I find someone who actually walks me through a problem :)@misty1212
