Compare and contrast the traits and growth patterns of opportunistic versus equilibrium?

Opportunistic organisms generally get into an area that has been opened up to colonization by an event such as a fire. They get in fast and grow and reproduce quickly. In an equilibrium community, there is more effect of competition and other traits may be favored over rapid colonization and reproduction.
I'm sure the teacher wants more than this. Look up what it means to be "r" selected vs. "K" selected. Opportunistic will have traits of rapid reproduction but little parental investment or care and equilibrium may have slower reproduction with more parental care. Competition may balance the community once equilibrium is achieved. A community at equilibrium is also called a "climax community".
