ONE-WAY PROCESS here is a one-way flow of energy from the Sun to all of the organisms in an ecosystem. Energy flows first into the lowest trophic level of an ecosystem via photosynthesis. Carbohydrate products from photosynthesis are then broken down to liberate energy through cellular respiration. Heat is lost to the environment at each step during energy transfer through the ecosystem.
