A student is assessing the correlation between the number of hours a plant receives sunlight and the height to which it grows. The table below shows the data: Number of hours of sunlight (x) 0 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 Height of plant in cm (y) 4 7 10 13 16 19 22 25 28 31 Part B: Write a function which best fits the data.

This is your answer for part a, that every hour of sunlight makes the height of the plant grow by 3 cm. Pt 2: The equation of a linear function is y = mx + b, where m = slope and b = y - intercept. as shown before, the slope (rate of change) is 3, so m = 3 When you look at the table, you see that the y - intercept is 4 because this is the height of the plant when it gets zero hours of sunlight. so b = 4 Now, you simply have to replace these values into the formula: y=3x+4
