What effect did Rome's expansion have on its economy?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It hurt citizens who lost their jobs to cheaper labor that was available from newly acquired land. It hurt merchants who no longer had a reason to travel on trade routes and sell their goods for money. It hurt the government because new lands were difficult to control and maintain without a large enough army. It hurt small farmers who could not compete with large farms that were bought after expansion.
