OpenStudy (bmxlifestyle):

solve using two different methods for 7x-3y=20 and 5x+3y=16 explain which method you found more efficient

OpenStudy (welshfella):

the elimination method is best here just add the 2 equations and the 3y will disappear and you can quickly find value of x

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Add the two equations together. The 3y terms will subtract out leaving 12x = 36.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

add both equatios u will get the value of x and put the value of x in any equation to get the value of y

OpenStudy (welshfella):

then find the value of y by substituting back in one of the original equations

OpenStudy (welshfella):

the other method is by substitution from the first equation x = ( 20 +3y) / 7 plug this value for x into the second equation and solve for y then substitute back into one of the original equations to find x the elimination method is much easier for this problem
